Sunset Park’s built landscape connects a working waterfront with residential streets climbing inland. The Landmarks Preservation Commission says the neighborhood’s growth was closely tied to that waterfront and its port activity. Rowhouses built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries housed a range of households, and the architecture reflects several stages of development rather than one uniform building era.
